Master Business Coach Dan Creed Offers Coaching & Consulting for CFOs

Executive Coaching for COOs

Most COOs are incredible operators. You can diagnose bottlenecks, solve cross-functional conflicts, and keep complex systems running. But the job doesn't come with a playbook for the leadership challenges you face every day: aligning mismatched priorities, coaching executives who outrank you in tenure, scaling operations without breaking what already works, and translating the CEO's vision into execution the organization can actually follow.

I’m Danny Creed, qualified to guide you as a master business and executive coach. For nearly 40 years, I've worked with senior leaders who need a trusted advisor—someone outside the org chart who can help them think through high-stakes decisions, sharpen their leadership approach, and build the systems to make their role sustainable.

How a COO gets coached on leadership

We start with the challenge you're facing right now. Maybe it's a reorganization that's stalled, a leadership team that's siloed, or a CEO who sets ambitious goals without clarifying how to resource them. No matter the problem, we go after the actual fault instead of just treating the symptom.

First, we outline the goals, then we turn this outline into a concrete plan. Sometimes that means refining how you structure your week so strategic work doesn't get crowded out by operational fires. At times, I draft the tough conversations I need to have with peers or direct reports. Sometimes it's designing a decision-making framework the executive team will actually use.

My coaching is customized, practical, and focused on what you'll do next week, not theory you'll forget by Friday. I bring frameworks from my work with hundreds of executives, and you bring the context of your organization. Working side by side, we craft solutions to match the way you live and work.

I work with COOs to boost core strengths.

How do you project confidence and shape others’ views? You need to lead without formal authority over peers, command respect in the boardroom, and hold leaders accountable without damaging relationships.

  • Planned priority focus. When everything feels urgent, you must decide what moves the business forward and what just keeps the lights on.
  • Seeing the big picture through linked parts. Observe how each function ties together, spot the risk that comes from dependent parts, and learn to craft scalable processes to stay simple.
  • Invest in team skills today so tomorrow’s leaders are ready. Your job is to build leaders below you who can run the operation if you're not in the room.
  • Communication cuts through noise. You translate the CEO’s vision into clear marching orders, facilitate alignment across silos, and deliver tough messages with clarity and respect.

These are coachable skills. We work on them through real scenarios, structured practice, and honest feedback.

How an outside coach can lift a COO’s game

The COO role is inherently isolating. You can't vent to your direct reports, your peers are often competing for resources, and the CEO expects you to have answers, not more questions.

An executive coach gives you a confidential sounding board. I'm not here to tell you what to do. I’m here to help you think through trade-offs, stress-test your assumptions, and pressure-test decisions before you commit.

I’ll track the milestones you pick, point out the habits you need to reshape, and remind you of the leadership expectations you already show you can fulfill. I also bring proven frameworks, a fresh perspective, and nearly 40 years of experience helping executives navigate exactly the situations you're facing.

How we join forces

No two engagements are identical, but most follow this rhythm:

  • We meet regularly: weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, depending on your needs. We keep the meetings tight, usually running between 60 and 90 minutes.
  • Between sessions, you execute. I give you tools, frameworks, and next steps. You apply them in real time with your team and your challenges.
  • Time to go over the takeaways. What got the job done? What wasn’t? What do we adjust?
  • You also get 24-hour access to me for quick questions, urgent decisions, or moments when you need a quick gut-check before a high-stakes meeting.

FAQs

How is executive coaching not the same as consulting?

Consultants diagnose problems and hand you a report. Coaches work alongside you to build the capabilities and frameworks you need to solve problems yourself. My job isn’t to complete your work; it’s to help you improve the way you handle it.

From kickoff to delivery, a typical engagement follows a clear sequence: planning, execution, review. Most COO clients work with me for six months to a year, though some continue longer.

What if I’m not convinced coaching is really what I need?
