RESPECT life.
Most people I know do not respect life. They don’t really spend much, if any, time understanding how permanent death is. Like it or not, our time is limited, gone in the blink of an eye. But until we’re faced with the potential of not having life, then and only then do we give it a second thought.
Allow me to challenge you with this question: If you were told that you had less than 48 hours to live, what would you do with that time? Before you answer, let me answer it for you, you can’t do anything! You might be able to call some people that you love to say goodbye, but by this point, there’s nothing you can do. Nothing.
Believe me, I’ve been there.
It’s the most helpless feeling in the world, realizing that you cannot change anything about your life, that you can’t learn anymore, that you can’t work any less. There’s nothing you can do. So, the next question is — what are you doing so that you don’t have any of those regrets when the time comes? 18 months ago, I was told that i had 48 hours to live, give or take a few. I was being rushed into surgery for a triple bypass heart surgery. I called two friends; called my sister; gathered my immediate family around and told them I loved them and then said that I hope to see them later. Fortunately, I made it and survived, but the lesson I learned was, so to speak, life changing.
I learned that I, as most of us unknowingly do, had lived my life in a certain fear. A kind of fear that only serves to hold a person back from their true potential. Fears like “I’m too old”, “I’m too young”, “I’m not educated enough”, “I don’t have a degree”, “I came from a poor family”, “I’m too short”, “My idea isn’t that good” and on and on. Everyone has their own definition.
So, in short my new mantra is this: LIFE IS BEST LIVED THAN FEARED. Life is precious, so go live it. Identify your fears and toss them down the garbage disposal and go for it. Everyone deserves and has the ability to give themselves a second chance and a third and a fourth chance at life. Most of us wait around for someone else to give that chance to us, but you don’t have to. It’s yours for the taking no matter how old or young you are.
LIFE IS BEST LIVED THAN FEARED. You owe it to yourself to go for the best of it!
I wrote a book about my experience and it’s on Amazon.com. A LIFE BEST LIVED: A Story of Life, Death and Second Chances!
