I was recently asked by a “coach” who, to be nice, had relaxed on working his business. His questions to me was how he could restart his coaching and training business in 60 days or less. After pulling what hair I have left out, I suggested to him that the fact is that in today’s world, we can be very easily replaced. Whatever reason your practice shut down, the reality is that everyone who knew about you have moved on. They don’t care anymore as there were many replacements.

So, restarting a business, any business in 60 days is a Herculean task. Here were a few suggestions that I made to him:

  1. Start networking NOW! Not in a week, not sometime soon, but now. You need to let the market know you’re still alive!
  2. Flood social media with posts, and blogs, and articles about you and your business and your philosophy. Make them sit up and notice. Make them think that you’ve been there all the time and they’ve just missed you!
  3. Update any of your marketing materials. You had better have a rock solid Value Proposition; Product Description; Testimonials; FAQ; anything you can create or update. Make it look fresh and powerful
  4. If you weren’t already, be sure to position yourself in the market. Do you know exactly what you are selling? Can you precisely and with total clarity describe what kind of training you do?
  5. Can you describe what kind of coach you are? An issue in today’s marketplace is that anyone and everyone seems to be calling themselves a coach of some kind, whether they are qualified or not. Simply calling yourself a coach just isn’t enough. Are you a Certified Life Coach? Are you a Certified Business Coach? Why should i hire you versus the gazillion other people out there who call themselves a coach? You had better have an answer
  6. Finally, and most importantly, you have to go to work. You have to get busy and work, really, really, really, really, really hard. You must evaluate and clearly understand who your very specific target audience is and then you have find out where they hang out and talk to all of them. You have to talk to lots of the right people. You have to ask a lot of the right people for an appointment and inevitably you must ask a lot of the right people to buy from you! Work the numbers. The more of the right people that you talk with the more you move the odds to your favor.
  7. Whatever you do, if you’re not willing to do the things I’ve outlined here do me a favor and just shut up. Don’t blame the market; the industry; the economy; the Russians; just be quiet. A mentor once told me that as a business owner/entrepreneur, working 40 hours is for survival and anything over 60 is for success!

Good Luck, now go to work!
